There’s something wildly creative going on at the Solstice Workshop at the CAW. This Sunday June 1st, artist Christopher Noxon began painting his design on a life-sized baby elephant sculpture with the help of Solstice artists and Workshop participants. Christopher’s design named “Phantasmagorical Landscapephant” was the winner in the Solstice Art Box Contest in collaboration with the Elephant Parade®.*

Christopher Noxon winning the ArtBox Contest with his design
Artistic Director Riccardo Morrison and our Workshop Team prepped the blank baby elephant sized sculpture, upon which Christopher blocked out his winning design -- based upon the miniature he painted. Christopher will complete painting the elephant at the Workshop.

It began with a drawing . . . Then a miniature aka "Maquette"
And now, it's a life-sized baby elephant sculpture, which has beencompleted at the Workshop.
The elephant named “Phantasmagorial Landscapephant” will be in the Parade along with several other “wild” elephants including Pali X-Mano’s giant inflatable elephant which will feature aerialists inside. Here is Pali's digital rendering. He and his team, apprentice Jeremy are in thr process of sewing the giant inflatable at the Workshop.

Another Parade ensemble “Carnival of the Animals” led by visiting artist Raul Audelo, also features elephants. He is touching up an elephant which has been in the Parade from the 70's
