Solstice Theme selected
The Summer Solstice Board of Directors has selected “Fantasy” for the theme for the 2012 event which will take place starting with the Festival Opening on Friday, June 22nd and Parade and Festival on Saturday, June 23rd and the Festival continuing through Sunday, June 24th.
There will be a poster and t-shirt art contest. The Collection of Artwork will take place on Friday, January 27th. There is more information here on our website.
This will be the 38th Annual Solstice Parade and it promises to be another creative masterpiece. Summer Solstice is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that produces the Solstice Parade, Solstice Festival and the Solstice Community Arts Workshop from your donations and sponsorships of this organzation.
Solstice Festival and Parade a Huge Success
For the first time, Summer Solstice Celebration expanded the Festival in Alameda Park to include three days - June 24th, 25th, 26th.
The 37th Annual Summer Solstice Festival officially opened on Friday, June 24, at 4:00 PM in Alameda Park- an afternoon and evening of non-stop theatrical and musical entertainment until 9:00 PM. Randy Tico, one of Santa Barbara’s premier musicians put together an evening of entertainment, which also incorporates some of the parade ensembles, and a special guest appearance by Jeff Bridges.
The Saturday Festival began at noon and the entertainment continued until 8 PM. The Solstice Children’s Festival was open Saturday and Sunday, June 25th and 26th from noon until 6:00 PM with a variety of family and children’s activities, free art projects, booths, musical entertainment.
The Solstice Parade on Saturday, June 25th, began at noon at State and Cota Streets in downtown Santa Barbara, turning at Micheltorena Street and at the Festival in Alameda Park
For Sunday,there was entertainment from 1:30 to 6:00 pm on the main stage featuring soft jazz music as well as entertainment on the children’s stage from 1:30 to 6:00 pm. All of the arts and crafts booths, food booths, and beer and wine garden were open for all three days of the Festival.
The focal point on Sunday was community mural under the direction of mural artist Carlos Cuellar. People of all ages joined in to create this mural which will be approximately 60 feet long.
